Daniel Dwight Tosh is a 36 year old American stand-up comedian and host of Comedy Central’s television show, Tosh.0.
Daniel Tosh was born on May 29, 1975 in West Germany, but grew up in Titusville, Florida, the son of a preacher and a nurse. He graduated from Titusville’s Astronaut High School in 1993 and received a marketing degree in 1996 from the University of Central Florida. Daniel has a brother and two sisters.
Daniel Tosh began performing stand-up while still attending the University of Central Florida and he pursued comedy as a way around a nine to five job. Tosh’s first performances were at open mic nights at clubs in the Orlando area, and he stayed with them following his college graduation. Tosh caught the attention of comic Bill Hicks’ former manager while performing at Bonkers in Orlando and with professional management, his career really got moving.
By 1998, Tosh soon generated enough interest to be included one of the New Faces at Just For Laugh Comedy Festival in Montreal. Finding himself at a crossroad at this time , Daniel decided he needed to make the move to either New York or Los Angeles to work on his performance there. An avid surfer, Tosh chose LA and relocated to the West Coast at the age of 23.
Tosh's first big career break came in 2001 with a successful performance on the Late Show with David Letterman . He followed this with appearances on programs such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, making a name for himself.
In 2003 he performed in his own 30-minute special on Comedy Central Presents. In 2005 he released his first CD, entitled “True Stories That I Made Up.”
On June 17, 2007, Tosh's his stand-up special: Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious debuted. He also hosted an episode of Comedy Central's Live at Gotham that year, and was a regular guest on The Bob & Tom Show.
2008 saw Daniel Tosh’s first appearance in a feature film. He had a small cameo role in The Love Guru starring Mike Myers. Tosh’s played “Cowboy Hat”.
His Comedy Central TV show Tosh.0 premiered on June 5, 2009 and continues today. The show features crazy internet video clips which Daniel punctuates politically incorrect punch lines and mocking humor.
Tosh and his staff made headlines on July 13, 2010, when Tosh.0 beat the ratings of both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert--the highest rated non-animated show on the network. Tosh.0 found itself averaging 2.2 million viewers, besting The Daily Show by 200,000 viewers and The Colbert Report by 800,000 viewers.
Daniel Tosh’s second stand-up special, Happy Thoughts, was first televised on March 6, 2011 and pulled in 3.25 million viewers on that initial showing.
When not performing on Tosh.0, Daniel Tosh is a regular performer at the Comedy & magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California. He’s recognized in the industry for his quick turn over material, much faster than most touring comics. By continually introducing new material into his act, Tosh feels it keeps him fresh, engaged and sane.
Daniel Tosh now resides in Los Angeles with his dog, a Maltese named Simon. Tosh often returns to Florida to see family members living near Titusville, Winter Park and Melbourne, but he keeps his visits low key. He’s an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes. He still loves to surf.
Weird Tosh fact: Despite his glib manner and outgoing charm, Daniel Tosh suffers from social anxiety.
